Elite/Commodore Links from Dekahedron #69 - Snowgen - 06-30-2023
In today's episode (#69) of the Dekahedron RPG Cast, I was responding to some feedback from Jason (at the Nerd's RPG Variety Cast), and that led to a off-topic conversation of older computers and games. These are the links for those things:
- Retro Games makes hardware Commodore 64/Vic-20 and /Amiga emulators> their website is https://retrogames.biz/products/
- VICE is the Versatile Commodore Emulator. It's a software package that emulates just about every Commodore 8-bit computer ever. It's website is https://vice-emu.sourceforge.io/
- UAE is the Ubiquitous (?) Amiga Emulator at https://amiga.technology/uae/ but the Windows version is at https://www.winuae.net/ (The Amiga ROMS can be legally acquired through Cloanto at https://www.amigaforever.com/
- OOLITE is a free modern remake of the classic Elite. You can get it at https://oolite.space/

I had looked at getting CCS64 and even C64 Forever at one time but didn't feel good about them, so I never installed them. Think I began to download VICE once but didn't for some reason. Now I think I shall look into it again. Thanks for the nudge.

Thanks for posting the links! I would probably have to quit podcasting to have time to really dig into this but it is tempting. The older I get the more I want to revisit the things of my youth.

It's very faithful. More faithful than the current MMO Elite, which I also own.

Not had the chance to play it. The graphics are a bit more advanced than my old C64 version. I've not played the most recent incarnation, Frontier was my last go around. Though I do own a copy of the TTRPG of Dangerous somewhere.
